Tribute & Message From The Family

Thomas David Peine, was born on August 1, 1937 to William & Anita Frey Peine in Atlanta, GA. He was the oldest of three boys. After graduating from Broad Ripple High School in 1955, Tom earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity. In 1959 he married his high school sweetheart and beloved bride of 56 years, Susan Waldo Peine. Tom was a Professional Engineer and was co-owner of Peine Engineering Company, running the service department until his retirement. Tom was very involved in Boy Scouts and served as a Scout Master for the Mayer Chapel neighborhood Troop 111, and later for troop 187. He was a District Commissioner, and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, scouting's highest honor for volunteers for his outstanding service. He was the Chairman of the Board for LifeNets charity, and an elder in the United Church of God. Tom was a private pilot, a beekeeper, and enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. He loved traveling and led many youth group trips. He was best known for his service to others, his love for his family, and his witty sense of humor. Tom is survived by his wife, Sue; his brothers, Richard and John; his children, Cathy (Malcolm) McClure, Mike (Sheila), Anita (Dave) Kranich, Bill (Gina), nine grandchildren: Jonathan McClure, Katie Peine Wefler, Ryan McClure, Daniel Kranich, Rebecca McClure, Joseph Peine, Jessica Peine, Stephen Kranich and Matthew Peine, and one great grandchild, Lucy Wefler.

Condolence & Memory Journal

I am so sorry to hear about Tom's passing. He was a good man and a wonderful boss to me for many years. I am also grieving the loss of my Mom on March 7th. Sue, we will make it through this.

To say Tom was a "gentle giant" would only lessen the true spirit of the man. I have been honored to know him and even though our paths went in different directions I have often thought of him and his beloved Sue. May God grant peace and comfort to this sweet family though his passing till they are all united again.

We remember the boat regatta at the Peine's house when our son, Chris, was in Cub Scouts with the McClure boys. Tom and Sue were very welcoming and really enjoyed all the kids during that event. Both Tom and Rich are neighbors of my parents. Rich and his wife have been friends with and a great support to my mom. The Kortman and Rice families send condolences to the entire Peine family.

It is with a heavy heart that I offer my condolences to the family of Thomas Peine. The picture looks just like he did when he was a lot younger. The house they lived in at Alton Terrace was built by my husband Sam. I lost Sam in 2013 and still grieving over it. Sue, I know this is hard, you never really stop grieving, but hopefully over time, it will get a little better. That's what people tell me anyway. Give my regards to your children (at least the ones who might remember us). Stay busy-that helps too.

Our sincere sympathy to you Sue and your family on the passing of Tom. Our Dad, Chet Corwin, so enjoyed working with Tom and the rest of the Peine's. Mom, Hazel, also enjoyed the visits with your family. Just know others are thinking of you during this difficult time. Linda Corwin Arnold and Sandy Jumpp Fink.

Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to Sue and the entire Peine Family. Words cannot explain the loss we all feel. Tom was one of the greatest people I have ever been associated with. His depth in everything was immense.

We will always remember our years working with Tom and Sue and family. Their family and church dedication were an example to all. Tom and his quirky sense of humor added levity to any situation.
With love, The V & D Hargrove

I remember Tom as one of the nicer men I ever met in my practice in the insurance business. He was a real pleasure with whom to do business, and always a gentleman.

The Peine family -- Father Bill, Tom and Rich -- had a major influence on my professional career. Mr. Peine treated me like family when I called on the company, and Tom and Rich became lifelong friends. I remember Tom because of his kindness, his high ethics, and his giving back to the community. I will miss him, his wit and his friendship.
