Tribute & Message From The Family

Paul M. McLear, 83, Carmel, passed away March 19. 2015. He was born August 24, 1931, in Indianapolis, the son of the late Carl A. and Ruth (Mogab) McLear. He married Barbara (Porter) McLear on August 29, 1953 at Christ Church Cathedral.

Paul graduated from Shortridge High School in 1949. He earned a BSME from General Motors Institute in 1953 and a MSME from Purdue University in 1960. While working on his master's degree he was employed by Allison Division of General Motors as an engineer. During this period Allison installed their first computer and Paul discovered what would become his life's work. He left Allison to teach at Purdue University Indianapolis extension. Paul designed and taught many computer technology courses during this period. In the 1980s he joined Bell Labs division of AT&T and remained there until his retirement in 1998.

He kept very busy during "retirement". He was active in Scientech Club serving in several capacities as web-master and secretary. He also volunteered at the Children's Museum for the past 16 years. He loved traveling, boating, and any activity on or in the water, and his greatest enjoyment was spending summers with his family at their cottage on Lake Wawasee.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara McLear; two sons, Gregory Paul (Becky) McLear and Steven Matthew McLear; and two granddaughters, Katherine and Meagan.

Memorial services will be March 28 at 11:00 am at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 1402 West Main Street where Paul was a long-time member. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the church, or to the Scientech Foundation in care of Richard Carter, 849 Liberty Drive, Westfield, IN 46074-8394
