Tribute & Message From The Family
Christine S. Clark 83, passed away March 31, 2015. She was born Oct. 4 1931, in Owensboro, Ky., one of seven daughters of Myrtle (Waltrip) Shelton and Robert E. Shelton. She married her Owensboro Senior High School sweetheart, Joseph R. Clark, on Dec. 2, 1950. She soon began to mold her family, one of the first steps being to put her husband through University, a task she completed in 1956. During the University years while busy as a mother, bread winner and hostess to an impromptu study hall for her husband's bachelor friends, who were always hungry, she was elected Queen of the Engineers Ball in 1955. After University their career had them leaving Kentucky, living in Texas, Indiana, North Carolina, New York, Connecticut and finally back to Indiana. She was an outstanding natural gardener having grown up on a farm, and was always active in the local gardening community where she lived, volunteering her time and talent to beautify all she touched. Each time she moved to a new location, she left good friends and beautiful gardens. She took Iris bulbs from the family farm on her first move and always dug some to take to the new home, bringing that very old strain to its new home. She was also an excellent cook and superb Hostess. She loved preparing meals for family and friends and the parties she gave for holidays, family milestone events and business occasions were masterpieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Ruby Baird, Jean Baker, Martha Harpe and Anne Leishman, all of Owensboro Ky. and Betty Collins of Wise Va. She is survived by the family to whom she was devoted; her husband of over 64 years, Joseph R. Clark; son Joseph P. Clark (Barbara); son John M. Clark; daughter Susan Clark; grandchildren: John R. Clark; Jessica Clark (Felix Yau), Catherine Clark (Jeff Hammel); Sarah Clark; Cassie Roth (David); Molly Wormly (Kevin); great grandchildren: Kamby Beatty, Kayden Beatty, Chase Hammel, Addison Hammel and Daniel Roth; sister Ida Wood of Liberty Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend special gratitude to Jennifer Hilton, RN and Dr. Michael Robertson of I.U. Health and all of the caring people at St. Vincent Hospice and Senior1Care.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive, with interment in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2015. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be shared by visiting www.flannerbuchanan.com.
