Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Betty by adding your memories and photos.

Elizabeth "Betty" Gaumer Lawson
November 10, 1925 to April 9, 2015

Elizabeth "Betty" Gaumer was born November 10, 1925 in Fairfield, Iowa. Her parents were Margaret (Heine) and Harvey Gaumer. She grew up in Fairfield, Iowa and married Ken Lawson on August 3, 1946. Shortly after, they moved to Haddonfield, NJ. Ken's career with RCA took them to Cambridge then Findlay, OH; Barrington, IL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Moorestown, NJ and finally to Indianapolis, IN while Betty assumed the role of "domestic engineer". Ken and Betty enjoyed traveling to Newfoundland and Texas to visit their kids. They also traveled outside the country to Taiwan, Hong Kong, England, and Brazil. They enjoyed square dancing and vacationing in their motor home. Betty hand made all of her kids Halloween costumes, knitted over 50 beautiful Christmas stockings for family and friends and enjoyed spending time with her dogs. She was a Grey Lady, a docent for the James Whitcomb Riley Home in downtown Indianapolis, a Red Hatter and enjoyed power walking and bible study. Betty was a fabulous gourmet cook and enjoyed throwing lavish dinner parties. She was active in the Castleton United Methodist Church Variety Bunch until she relocated to Franklin United Methodist Community after the death of her beloved husband, Ken. Betty was a loving mother and is survived by Becky (Walter) Hannowsky; Gwen Lawson; Christine (David) Mayhew; Tassy (Kirk) Davis and Lawrence Lawson. She has eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Indiana.

Condolence & Memory Journal

I smile when I think of Betty and remember the many, many happy times my family and her family spent enjoying life together. Her passing is leaving a void in your lives; I offer my sincere condolences for that and am truly thankful that we all met and created such happy memories that I treasure. My love to you all; may God give you peace and comfort as you celebrate her life. I love you Betty.

I remember her advice to me as a young mother of three. In the afternoon go to the mailbox and go to the dining room table and read the mail one by one in peace. That is the time a young mother has to herself all day! She was a gracious and beautiful person. Our family holds dear memories of fun in the hottub, laughs on the deck and the warmth of the family she created.

Tassy, We're so sorry to hear of your loss. Betty was such a lovely person and a wonderful role model for her daughters who grew up with hearts of gold and backbones of steel. She was such fun each year at Indy time. We know you must all miss her.

Your mother was a lovely woman and I have a lot of fond memories of the whole Lawson family. May she rest in peace and know I will certainly remember the great times we had through the years. Love, Susan Silvey
