Condolence & Memory Journal

"Thanks to everyone who took time to sign this guest book. I'm embarrassed to say I never heard the phrase 'Sharon's School' until after my mother's passing. I don't know how many children my mother helped take care of. But it's clear it's one of her enduring legacies." Bill Koenig, son, May 12, 2015

So sad to hear the news of Sharon's passing. I remember Sharon's School. My mom always said when I was younger that when I got in trouble at home I would say "Sharon likes me she thinks I'm nice." She was a wonderful woman took great care of my brother, sister and I as well as friends we made while we were there. She will be dearly missed.

I am so thankful that your mother provided me with safe, fun, and loving care. I have many funny, sweet, random memories that fill me with warmth when I think of the several years I spent at "Sharon's School." I loved when she made us mac-n-cheese and fish sticks for lunch, playing in the evergreen "fort" near the bike trail in the backyard, coloring or playing with blocks at the perfectly sized wooden, round table. I think of her when I see owl decor or smell Lysol. I remember when Dick had to climb a tree to rescue one of the boys who had climbed up, but was afraid to come back down. And Becky, taking me on an outing (I think she had to run an errand), but I felt so special getting to go along. Sharon cared so well for all of us and we were blessed to have her.

There are not words for me to express how much I appreciated your mother and all she did for so many children in what became known as "Sharon's School," I have so many memories of not only her care for my child, but our conversations as mothers and women. Even though many years have passed, I will miss her, but every time I drive along the By-Pass at 10th Street in Bloomington, I think of the Koenig home. Please accept our sympathy. (Bob, we did not forget that you played football for Coach and Becky we remember you helping with all the day-care kids.) Love to your family.
