Tribute & Message From The Family

Mr. Roell Rea Jr. was born on October 23, 1956 in Gary, Indiana to the union of Mrs. Delores Costello (Clark) Rea and Mr. Roell Ulzie Rea who both proceeded him in death.

Roell was raised in Gary, Indiana and attended Gary public schools graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1974. He attended Indiana State University for two and a half years. After completing one semester of his junior year at ISU Roell had a brief illness and had to relocate to Indianapolis to recuperate. It was here he met his favorite girl Sheila Durrell. Roell and Sheila were united in holy matrimony on June 17, 1978. To this union they had three children, Roell III, Natasha and Nicole.

Roell was a man with a wealth of knowledge or as he phrased it, "full of useless information". He was an avid sports fan, who would watch all varieties of sports on TV; to the extreme of using vacation days to watch March Madness faithfully every year. He loved to bowl, bowling for over 25 years and at times on three different leagues a week. His passion was barbequing. He loved to BBQ for holiday family gatherings. Often friends called on him to BBQ for their special occasions. He even BBQ'd for his own surprise birthday party without knowing it. He had a competitive nature and it was often demonstrated in all he did from debating an issue, playing cards or during family game night. He lived by the motto "you start; you finish". Roell was a loving father and always attended his children's sporting events. He wanted them involved in sports but he instilled in them education came first. If their grades slipped below a 'B' average he would pull them from their sports (or First Baptist youth trip) even though they were still considered eligible according to Indianapolis public school standards. His parenting duties did not stop with his own children. Roell was the best uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. He would attend their after school activities, give out discipline when needed and advice whether it was asked for or not. He fathered them as he did his own children. He loved being around family and friends. His jokes and laughter was received by many. He was very generous and enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved to travel and taking chances. He had the gift of gab and one of his many favorite sayings was "Stop me when I start lying"

Roell was presently employed at AT&T (formerly Indiana Bell, Ameritech & SBC) as a Telecommunications Specialist working for 36 years, and 6 months. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the age of 58 years. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.

Roell, affectionately called Uncle Roy or Pappa Rea leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife of 36 years, Sheila (Durrell) Rea, three children: Roell III, of Indianapolis, Natasha (Larry) Scott of Evansville and Nicole Rea of Indianapolis. Two grandchildren, Alaya Rea Nicole Scott and Moriah Elise Renea Scott both of Evansville; two brothers, Ronald (Joyce) Rodgers of Chicago, IL and Derek Rea of Sacramento, CA; three sisters, Kim Bandy of Indianapolis, Karen Parks of Gary, IN and Korliss Parks of Indianapolis along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Still unbelievable living life without you...breath taking when I think how you aren't here with us. Your grand babies are hilarious and we talk to them all the time about you, well not just yet Reanna...but we'll make sure she knows her Papa. Alaya still asks about you, and reminds us how she misses you too. Father's Day is approaching and I hate it...listening and reading the daddy-daughter stories are heartbreaking, yet precious. Reminds me of how blessed I am to have had you in my life, to show me what true love is. Happy early Father's Day daddy, I love and miss you terribly!

I said a prayer for you today, and know God must have heard- I felt the answer in my heart, Although, He spoke no word. I didn't ask for wealth or fame I knew you wouldn't mind. I asked him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind. I asked that He'd be near you at the start of each new day, To grant you health and blessings and friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you in all things great and small, But it was his loving care I prayed for most of all. Sheila may God bless, comfort and keep you, You have a lot of memories, cherish those.

There are no words to express how much I love and miss this man. I think about him continuously. He was such an awesome man and a wonderful FATHER. Many people aren't blessed with men in their lives and I had the ultimate blessing of not only having him in my life, but having him as a role model and a DAD!
