Marshall M Steward, 80, left us on June 3, 2015 with his family by his side in Indianapolis Indiana.
Marshall Matthew Steward, Jr. was born February 24, 1935 in Mount Vernon, Indiana. He was the son of Marshall and Mary Agnes Payne Steward. Marshall attended Booker T Washington Elementary School. In 1949 he attended, Mt. Vernon High School and where he met Linnie Jo Henderson from Sparta, Tennessee. They were married after High School on September 1, 1955.
At an early age Marshall turned his life over to Christ through the form of Methodist. Marshall was industrious and hard working in nature with amazing leadership qualities. Marshall proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he shared his fond memories of his tour in Europe. Marshall moved his family to Indianapolis in 1958, where he had 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters. He was employed as maintenance and former supervisor at General Motors Truck and Bus Corporation and retired in 1995. In his teens, Marshall basketball, football and baseball in High School. He will be remembered by the style he possessed as a "left-handed catcher" and only unbeaten 1949-1950 Wildcat Basketball freshman team in Mount Vernon. Marshall's love for basketball lead him to become a coach, and later the President of Prentice Little League. Through his work and community involvement he was known to have mentored and touched the lives of young adults from the neighborhood. Marshall loved camping in Indiana with his wife and children.
Marshall's interests included family, enjoying talking and being around people, loved watching the Pacers. Colts, Dodgers and pulling baseball tickets in his spare time. He spent his summers dancing, playing horseshoes, and hosting family gatherings.
Marshall is preceded in death by hos parents, and his brothers (Oscar, William, Charles, Shirley, Bobby, and James) and his sister Clarava) and one grandson (Danny D. Steward). He leaves to cherish his memory Linnie Steward, sons Mark (Rhonda), Sandy (Geneva), Danny Steward; daughters Jacqueline and Debra Steward; his sisters, Charlotte, Geraldine, and Lois. Marshall had 14 grandchildren (Shannel, Tiffany, Shania, Allisen, Shantel, Sharell, Dantivia, Tenisha, Channel, Markus, Antwain, Byron {Buddy}, Jordan, Danny, {deceased}; 23 great grandchildren (Darius, Cordell, Dasia, Anaisha, Aydain, Trevon, Teniya, Terrell, Lena, J'iahaa, E'miyaa, J'iayah, Jayce, Jalia, Gerald, Demetrius, Mason, Marian, D'Maria, Phillip, Samaria, Taylor, Arianna); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
