Tribute & Message From The Family

Patricia Anne Cooksey was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on September 16, 1945 to William H. Cooksey and Virginia Tolliver Sims. From age seven, she was raised by her dad and stepmother, Mildred Cooksey.
Patricia graduated from Gerstmeyer Technical High School, and earned an Associate Degree to become a Surgical Technician in the medical field. She was employed by Regional Hospital in Terre Haute.
Patricia moved to Indianapolis in 1964, where she was employed first at Winona Hospital, and later at Methodist Hospital, where she worked for thirty years. She also enjoyed caring for patients with home health care.
Patricia's hobbies included doll collecting and antiquing. She loved spending time with her family and church family. She was a member of Allen Chapel AME Church.
Patricia was very close to her nephews Kenneth and Keith Abernathy. They showed her love and kindness, and were always there for her, as they are even to this day.
Patricia leaves to mourn her loss her sisters Sandra Anderson, Bonnie Sims, Christi Sims, Brenda Underwood (Johnie), and Priscilla Abernathy of Indianapolis; brothers Stephen M. Cooksey of Annapolis, MD and Randy L. Sims of Terre Haute, IN; cousins Myra Clanton Stinnett (Dennis) of Georgia, Sonya Clanton of Indianapolis, and Carmen Clanton of Indianapolis; special cousins Jacqui LaMotte of Fontana, CA and Georgetta Price of Atlanta, GA; and her loving nephews Kenneth Abernathy of Indianapolis and Keith Abernathy of Atlanta, GA
Patricia's family would like to express their gratitude to The Waters of Greenbriar, Heartland Hospice, and Blooms at Eagle Creek for the care and concern they showed Patricia.
A tribute from Patricia's sister, Sandra Abernathy -Anderson
"My most memorable time was when Patty and I took a trip in the 1970s with the Mozelle Sanders team. We travelled by train to California and Las Vegas; Patty and I got off the train to do a little shopping at a jewelry stand. We forgot the time, and almost missed the train! Thanks to Rev. Sander—he came and hurried us back before the train left without us."
"Patty enjoyed many holidays at my home. Her words were, 'I'll have the chicken leg and thigh.' Smiles. Thank you, Lord for the years you allowed my sister to be with me. We loved each other. I will miss you, Patty. You will be missed by family and friends. You were tired here on earth, so the Lord said 'Come home, my child. I will give you peace and rest.' "

I was so sorry to hear about Patty's passing. Although I haven't seen her in many years since we were living at the YMCA in Terre Haute I always remembered her fondly over the years. Rest in peace my friend because I know you are with GOD now and watching over us all.

I remember Patty when we were little girls growing up in Terre Haute, living on the same street, playing with dolls together. Rest in peace Patty.
