Tribute & Message From The Family

Dr. Gary A. Hunt, 62, Carmel, passed away June 11, 2015. He was born June 28, 1952, in Lafayette, the son of the late Robert Dean and Karen (Grimm) Hunt.

Gary graduated from West Lafayette High School, where he obtained his famous nickname "Rocket." He was a proud alumnus of Indiana University, where he earned his Bachelor's as a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Upon graduation, he moved to Indianapolis to continue his graduate studies at IU, earning his D.D.S.

Gary was an avid supporter of the Colts and IU athletics, and he also enjoyed playing golf. He valued education; his proudest moment was watching all four of his children graduate from college. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be most remembered for his quick wit, charm, and his contagious personality.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Stacy Hunt; son, Jeremy Hunt; three daughters, twins Jennifer Knight (Billy) and Lindsay Raimondi, and Jayme Hunt; granddaughter, Kristina; sister, Deborah Lawrence (James); sister-in-law, Kay Hunt; and 18 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his older brother, Robert Dean Hunt II and sister, Marsha Lamb.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015, Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at the funeral center. Condolence & Memory Journal

Gary was such an inspiring joyful soul, and I am lucky to of had the opportunity to get to know him. He was one of my first patients I assisted during my internship at CICC, and a patient I will never forget. He made every day brighter and could make the whole room smile with one of his jokes or stories. There was never an opportunity to have a bad day if Gary was in the presence, he made sure to make everybody smile. He was a gift to this earth and touch many people, especially myself. May you rest in peace Gary, and shine down your wisdom and encouragement on us everyday.

We were so sorry to see that Gary had passed away. It has been many years since we saw him at the soccer fields where our boys played together. We now live on the east side of Indy and pass his office almost daily. We have often commented that we wonder about the Hunt family and what they are doing. Please accept our prayers for comfort and healing for your family. Gary was such a nice guy and a loving father. We know he will be missed, but you all have such great memories to sustain you until you are reunited. Peace to all of you, Tim, Chris, Cody, and Carly Lawson

Dear Hunt family, We send our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of a special man. We are glad that we enjoyed, first hand, his quick wit, charm and devotion to family. Will always remember playing golf with him in Minnesota (girls' soccer). Most gnats ever. God Bless as you carry on a special legacy.

Dr. Hunt was my dentist for many years, and the only reason I had to leave him was due to insurance regulations 20+ years ago. I remember him fondly as the most gentle, kind soul, who always had a smile on his face and a lilt in his voice. I can only imagine how Martha Brown and the rest of his staff are also heartbroken to lose him, as our grief and loss is heaven's gain, because his heart of gold and servant's spirit remain with his loved ones forever. Utmost sympathies and prayers for you all. Suetta Payne Bartley

My thoughts are with the Hunt family during this difficult time. "Pappa Hunt" was a favorite among Jenn's college friends. When he visited during football games he would cook up the best BBQ and make the famous bouillon dip. He was the life of the party kind of guy who could entertain us all for days with his fun stories. He was a wonderful father who loved his kids more than anything. He was a wonderful person. Heaven has a new angel.

Dr. Hunt will be missed. My family & I have been going to him since he took over the dental practice on Franklin Road. A genuinely nice guy, very personable & ethical in his practice.

Gary was a great guy to have for a next door neighbor. I enjoyed our conversations across back yards as we watched our dogs play together. He made me feel welcome when we first moved here and never had an unkind word to say to, or about, anybody. I miss him.

Gary was a great classmate at West Lafayette and an even better person. He was very friendly to me when I moved midyear and will always remember that. Remember death ends a life and not a relationship....you will always have that still with Gary and his spirit. God bless you Gary...
