Tribute & Message From The Family

Our beloved Amber Renee' Pratcher, was born on June 14, 1979, to Benjamin Franklin Curtis, and Cora Tucker Curtis, the second of four siblings.
She attended Pike School System, and excelled in her studies. She graduated from Pike High School in 1997, and matriculated to Ball State University earning a Bachelor of Art Degree in Mass Communication. She also attended Indiana University Bloomington, earning a Master's Degree in Higher Education. Never feeling content to rest on her laurels, she obtained a second Master's Degree in Informatics Technology.
In 2001, Amber joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and worked diligently to make a major difference through the organization. She was the visionary behind RealZetas.com and she authored the book #IAMZETA which profiled prominent Zeta women, revealing accounts of their lives as pertaining to their affiliation with the sorority. Amber was the epitome of Finer Womanhood and represented Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. on every platform with purpose and excellence. She was also the personification of Progressive Greeks, serving in local, state, regional and national offices, often at the same time.
Amber accepted Christ at an early age, uniting with Northside New Era Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. In 2003 Amber met the love of her life, Jonya Pratcher They were united in holy matrimony August 27, 2005 and from this union their son, Jaden Benjamin, was born. She was a good wife and mother and had compassion for children born with birth defects. She actively involved her husband and son in walk-a-thons and raised funds from sponsors who gladly supported her. An avid progressive activist who participated in many community activities, Amber made a positive impact in every opportunity she participated in. Although her life was short, she lived to fulfill her destiny. Her accomplishments are too numerous to mention, however, those who knew her are aware of the causes she supported and the accolades earned for her efforts. Still she remained humble, never flaunting her achievements. She gave of herself tirelessly and inspired many youths to pursue a college education, providing wise counsel to those who failed to live up to their potential or seemed to have no hope to enhance their quality of life. On Monday July 20, 2015, she transitioned to Eternity.
Amber will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by her loving family, and is survived by her husband and son, her parents, her Grandmother, Joanne Curtis, her mother-in-law, Deborah Pratcher, stepmother, Joni Hogan Curtis, special mom, Gwen Banks, one sister, Decelia Myers, stepsisters Tiffanie Muller (Earl), Ashley Gurvitz, brothers, Benjamin Scott Curtis, Christopher George Curtis, stepbrothers, Adam Gurvitz, Oliver Blue (Indra), Joshua Gurvitz, sisters-in-law, Detria Tate, Jerwin Johnson-Macklin (Arnold), Jeanna Lorrrain Ford (Delancey), brother-in-law, Jaye Johnson, aunts Helene Curtis, Shannon Whitney (Robert), Decelia Tucker, Cynthia Ransom, Beverly Tucker, uncles Ronald, Randy (Cecilia), Vincent Tucker, cousins Shelliese Strode, Kelly(William) Camper, Nikki Johnson, Brandy Tucker, Ashley Tucker, Shawnika Aiken, James Yelverton, Tristan Johnson, Douglas Greene, and Brandon Hardin, and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews. I've just gotten to the stage where I can write a proper tribute to my Dear sweet Amber. You could not have lived a better life in such a short time. You lived God's purpose for your life and then HE called you home. Wife to Jonya, mother to Jaden, daughter, sister, cousin and sister/Soror to many. To me, Auntie, as she called me, you were one of my special children. My heart is still broken but the memories I treasure always make me smile. To Jonya and Jaden, Ambers Sister/Soror/Auntie send my heartfelt condolences and love. Amber is and will be truly missed by me. R. I. P. my sweet Soror. Love Always, Auntie Jennie!

Cousin Cora, Jonya, J and entire family - I love you all and I am so saddened about Amber's sudden passing. As much as it pleased our Almighty Father in Heaven to take from this world our beloved Amber - we hold fast to the blessed hope of seeing the Lord face to face someday and living in eternal peace with him also. Mourn for a while, reflect and celebrate always - for this wonderful woman's legacy of love, intelligence, living, giving, and serving the Lord is with us always.
May the Love of Almighty God, Family, and dear friends and strangers who loved, admired, and respected Amber be our source of strength, great comfort, and resolve today, and in the many days to come as we adjust to life without her physically in our presence. Love and hugs. We are praying for you in the Bolden/Scruggs/Searcy/Tucker/Morris Family Unit.

Amber and my daughter Stephanie Jackson have been best friends for years. She worked so hard as my daughter's Maid of Honor at her wedding 2 years ago! She truly made that event memorable! My heart is painfully heavy to see this young & gifted woman leave here too soon!. She will be sorely missed by many who loved her. God bless her family and especially her young son!

Ambie - You are one of the smartest people I have ever known. Your wit is unmatched- in our nearly 25 year friendship, you have always been my funniest friend. Even as middle school kids in orchestra class, you would always crack me up. Your drive, your strength, your perseverance.. Your passion, your loyalty, your energy.. You inspired me. You inspire me. You were my best friend, Amber Renee Curtis Pratcher -- and I am going to miss you so so so much! Thank you. God bless you. Rest in peace my radiant sister. I love you!

Amber hired me for one of my first jobs in Indianapolis. Her passion, wit, and intelligence struck me immediately. I greatly enjoyed working with her on the Obama campaign as well as other local politics. I not only had a new job, but also a new friend. My prayers go out to Jonya and JB during this incredibly difficult time of Amber's tragic passing. She will be missed. Love, Lauren Stanisic

"I will lift up my eyes unto hills from whence cometh your help. My help cometh from the Lord which made Heaven and Earth" Psalm 121:1-2. May God pour out his Richly blessings on your family as they smile at all the wonderful memories you've created. You were Zeta in your own right. You were that silent storm. You were the epitome of community awareness & voice for the right of others. The world has lost another Beacon of Light. I told you in life how much I love you & loved your spirit. My heart is broken, but I know everything you've done in Zeta is about explode times more from where you laid the foundation. Amber Renee you were bigger then you knew. You were bigger then Life. Your job here on Earth is Done but the Legacy you left will live on in all of us. Haven has a new Angel ready to work and your family has a new Guardian Angel ready to protect. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Job Well Done My Soror.
