Tribute & Message From The Family

Jane F. Englert, 90, Carmel, passed away on August 4, 2015. She was born January 21, 1925, in New York, NY, the daughter of the late Quested and Florence (Schmidt) Elgar. In June 1947, she married Thomas W. Englert, who preceded her in death in 1988.

Jane received her bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of New Hampshire. She was a member of PrimeLife, Carmel Clay Library Friends, and the Carmel Clay Historical Society. She was an avid reader and participated in the Critical Mass book club for over 10 years. She enjoyed playing bridge, and was quite a correspondent. Many counted on Jane's weekly letters always penned in her still beautiful hand. She loved to travel and started late in life, crossing the Mississippi for the first time while in her 60's. She globe trotted until her mid-70's, sending postcards along the way. So many counted her as a friend; she had a wide social circle. Jane was a generous and engaged mother and grandmother, always interested in her extensive family's activities.

She is survived by her four children, John Q. Englert, Steven J. Englert, Judith A. (William Bales) Liederbach, and Matthew T. (Amy) Englert; four grandchildren, Max Q. Liederbach, Alex J. Liederbach, Haley F. Englert, and Thomas M. Englert, and one great grandchild, Jackson D. Harmas. She was preceded in death by her younger brother, John "Sonny" Q. Elgar, in 1933.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Memorial contributions may be directed to PrimeLife Enrichment. Online condolences may be shared by visiting www.flannerbuchanan.com.

Jane was one of Mom's dearest friends. They shared their hopes and fears, their love of family. She was a dear and gracious lady. I am glad to have known her, so grateful for her friendship with Mom and so sad she is gone from this life. Peace to her family and all her many friends until we see her again.

Jane was an active member of the Critical Mass book club and was an inspiration to me. She always had great insights into the books we read and enjoyed a lively discussion. I will miss her at our discussion group meetings.

Jane and I shared several common interests, and for many years I have enjoyed her company. For the last few years, friends from her church, Carmel Christian, have visited her monthly and found her always gracious and eager for a visit. Jane loved talking about her family, the community and her interests, and she was always curious about people and happenings at the church. We appreciated her stories and found her to be delightful in her hospitality. We will miss our visits with Jane and the way she always welcomed us to her lovely home. Our condolences to all of her family.

I've been friends with Jane's daughter, Judy, for over twenty years and some of the most delightful dinners at Judy's have been with Jane present. As time went on, I considered Jane a friend as well. I can still hear her wonderful laugh. She will be missed.
