Dear Charley, Leigh, Elizabeth and puppies. I am very very sorry about the sad news.
I was not aware until today.
I had some good chats with Matt and enjoyed playing hockey in the league with him over the years. I was always impressed with his hockey prowess including how he effortlessly lifted the puck with a single sweep of the stick. We had discussed Volvo S80s. We had even joked when I had mentioned seeing the cameras focus on Charley at the first Fuel hockey game in indy a few months ago.

If I was not so far away now, I would have been there to pay my respects and support all of you. My deepest condolences to you all. I will definitely pray for him and you all.

Best regards,
Hassan

Dear Smith Family-
My son Brandon and I had the honor of playing on the same Sunday night hockey team with Charlie and Matt this past year. As the "two old guys" on the team, I know we enjoyed our games so much more than the other players for one simple reason-we got to play with our sons. Try and use those wonderful memories as way to help you through these tough days. My faith tells me we will all meet again at center ice- one day. Our prayers are with you all.

As a teacher I have had the opportunity to see young people as they embark upon what I hope are purposeful and useful lives. Fortunately, in only a few cases have I seen that potential cut short. Though I have never met Matthew, his obituary paints a picture of a young man who was striding forward to a life which would lead to the betterment of the condition of others as well as himself through his work with young people through hockey. My prayers and thoughts are with his parents and family who have played such a prominent part in my own life.
