Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Rose Marie by adding your memories and photos.

Rose Marie Candida (Guariglia) Boyle

92 of Indianapolis, formerly of Totowa Boro, NJ passed away peacefully with her family at her side on September 15, 2015. Rose Marie was born on May 21, 1923 in Paterson, N.J. to Angelo and Elvira (Boniello) Guariglia. While residing in Totowa, Rose Marie was a member of St James of the Marches Roman Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and also worked at Sealfon's, a specialty clothing retailer in Wayne, N.J. for 20 years. She was manager of the children's clothing department at her retirement. "Rose" (to her friends and family) gave of her time, talent and treasure to the Boy Scouts of America for many years serving as a Cub Scout Den Leader, Den Leader Coach and volunteer in the local and regional councils. In 1972 her years of service were recognized by the award of "The Silver Fawn", the highest honor bestowed on women leaders in scouting.

She formed so many wonderful life-long friendships through scouting and in her frequent visits to Gananoque, Ontario, her home away from home. She and her "Canadian Connection" friends went on many adventures within Ontario, Quebec and New England seeing the sites, antiquing, and generally "running the roads." The tales of the trips were always a source of entertainment.

Rose Marie learned to sew from her uncle who was a tailor in Paterson. That early skill evolved during her life and she became an accomplished artist in needle work - both needle point and cross stitch. Rose was very generous with her work, freely giving completed pieces to family, friends, and charitable causes.

Rose Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard Douglas Boyle in 1990 and by her brother John Vincent Guariglia in 1998. After moving to Indianapolis in 1995 she became a member of St. Monica Catholic Church where she was an active member again sharing of her God given gifts for her family and community.

Calling will be held on Sunday September 20, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive, Indianapolis, 46228 from 4 to 8 pm with a Rosary at 7 pm. Additional calling will be held on Monday September 21, 2015 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 3352 West 30th Street, Indianapolis, 46222 beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Rose Marie is survived by her sons Richard Douglas (Susan Jaye Heckman) Boyle, Jr. and Dr. David Winfield (Maureen Galanaugh) Boyle and her nine beautiful grandchildren Catherine, Richard Jay, Amelia, Madeleine, Sarah, Douglas, Rebecca, Frances, and Laura Boyle. Rose is also survived by her brother-in-law of over 50 years, Joseph Boyle III of Wyckoff, NJ, a niece, Deborah (Boyle) Leighton of Bloomington, IL, a nephew, Joseph E. Boyle of Neptune, NJ, and cousins Mary and Palma Boniello of Paterson, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial contributions may be given to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Ave Washington, D.C. 20017, St. James of the Marches Roman Catholic Church, 32 St. James Place, Totowa, NJ 07512 or to St. Monica Roman Catholic Church, 6131 North Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46228. My family had the good fortune of sharing visits and holidays with "Grandma Rose" whenever she visited Virginia. We have fond memories of her warm heart and endless optimism as she embraced life filled with gladness. I found her enthusiasm and energy inspiring and I am blessed to have shared time with her. I can hear her strong voice in my head, see her perfectly coiffed hair and a smile that stretched the width of her lovely face. My condolences to the Boyle family members. May the love of God understood by Rose bring you peace.
