Condolence & Memory Journal

I have so many memories, so I'll choose one that illustrates several of my mother's most endearing qualities. I was 5 years old, and my parents wouldn't let me have a bicycle yet, but all the other children in our neighborhood had one, so I had to ride on the back of Karen Mitchell's bike (she was 7). All was well until, one day, my bare foot slipped off of the rail and got caught in the spokes of the back tire. Karen Mitchell and I hit the dirt, and I screamed "Mama!" repeatedly. Mama, who had developed a keen ear for true distress, came running. I was by then both sobbing and screaming, as my foot looked like a piece of raw meat. But, when Mama arrived, I knew that all would be well, so I stopped crying and said "I hurt my foot," holding it up so that she could see. In retrospect, I admire her ability to hide her horror; she just said, "I see that you did." Off we went to the doctor's office, and, as I had known as soon as I'd seen Mama coming, I wasn't badly hurt at all.

I'm grateful I had the opportunity to meet "Mama" a few years ago. What a warm and vibrant person!

Dear Johnson Family,

There are few things more difficult than dealing with the loss of a loved one. We, along with our staff, are honored and humbled that you have chosen our family to care for your family during this time. It is our hope that we have been able, in some small way, to lighten your burden and give proper reverence to a life lived. Please let us know if we can be of further service.
