Tribute & Message From The Family

Geraldine Marie Rumage Gill
89, of Indianapolis, was welcomed into eternal life on July 25, 2013. Geri was born to Alma Marie Murphy Rumage and Marion William Rumage on March 26, 1924 in Stanley, KY. She graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Maple Mount, KY. On August 27, 1948, she married Lyle Gordon Gill, who survives along with her two children, Marilyn Ross of Indianapolis and Thomas Gill (Jacqueline) of Granger, IN, and three grandchildren, Brandon, Lauren and Kelsey Gill of Granger. She is also survived by a sister, Mary George Freels, of Owensboro, KY and numerous nieces and nephews.

Geri was an inspector at an aircraft manufacturing plant during WWII, and survived being run over by a P-47 fighter plane without so much as a broken bone. She became a full-time mother and wife until her children were grown, then worked in the office at Sears in Greenwood for 23 years. She was a tireless volunteer at St. Mark Catholic Church and School for many years, and was an avid golfer and bridge player. Geri loved dogs, puzzles, antiques, decorating, sewing, many friends, and everything to do with her grandchildren.

Geri and Lyle loved to attend antique auctions and had a booth at the Gray Goose Antique Market in Franklin for more than 25 years. She also loved to cook. Everyone loved her cherry pies, meticulously decorated Christmas cookies, fudge, and pink divinity candy.

A Mass of Christian burial, with Msgr. Mark Svarczkopf officiating, will take place at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church in Greenwood on Tuesday, July 30 at 11 a.m., with visitation in the church from 10 a.m. Interment will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Indianapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph County Right to Life, 2004 Ironwood Circle, Ste. 130, South Bend, IN 46635.
