Tribute & Message From The Family

Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Lyle by adding your memories and photos.

Lyle Gordon Gill
94, of Indianapolis, was welcomed into eternal life on November 15, 2013. Lyle was born to Grace Gertrude Logan Gill and Christian William Gill on January 7, 1919 in Edinburgh, IN. On August 27, 1948, he married Geraldine Marie Rumage, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his two children, Marilyn Ross of Indianapolis and Thomas Gill (Jacqueline) of Granger, IN, and three grandchildren, Brandon, Lauren and Kelsey Gill of Granger.

Lyle, known to his friends as "Speed," was a veteran of the 145th Infantry of the U.S. Army, and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service in the Asiatic-Pacific theater during WWII, including the Northern Solomons and Luzon.

Lyle was a salesman at Hamilton-Harris Co. in Indianapolis for 23 years, retiring in 1985. He also worked for many years at Weddle's Drug Store in Indianapolis. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and bridge player, and he loved playing board games and card games with his family. Lyle and Geri also loved to attend antique auctions and had a booth at the Gray Goose Antique Market in Franklin for more than 25 years.

Private services will be held, with interment at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Indianapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph County Right to Life, 2004 Ironwood Circle, Ste. 130, South Bend, IN 46635. Those who wish to share thoughts with the family may do so by visiting the online guest registry.

Condolence & Memory Journal

What wonderful memories we have of sharing family times growing up. Mom and Dad talk about Lyle helping them at the grocery long years ago before they were married, must have been in Hanover, IN. Since Mom died October 26th, we know the sense of loss. We were so glad to see you at Mom and Dad's 70th anniversary celebration.

Marilyn & Tom, My mother Betty Medcalf, and I Linda, wanted to let you know we are sorry for your loss. Mom and I were talking about your dad "Speed" as we knew him and she reminded me how she and my dad (Dick) loved to play golf with your mom & dad. I also remember a few times when we were all together either at your house or ours while our parents played cards. Our sympathy to you and your families.

Marilyn, my condolences to you and your family. It was always a treat to visit with your parents at the antique shows in Franklin and to meet you through them. With best wishes, Lynne Schuetz

Dear Gill Family,

There are few things more difficult than dealing with the loss of a loved one. We, along with our staff, are honored and humbled that you have chosen our family to care for your family during this time. It is our hope that we have been able, in some small way, to lighten your burden and give proper reverence to a life lived. Please let us know if we can be of further service.

Respectfully,
