Frances Carole (Cosby) Guess 80, Indianapolis, died June 11, 2015.

She married William Nathaniel Guess in 1955; they were married for 51 years.

Carole was a teacher 31 years with Indianapolis Public Schools, retiring in 1995.

She was a 37 year member of St. Rita Catholic Church and a member of St. Monica Catholic Church for the last 3 years. She was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul and Down Syndrome Indiana. She was an active member of the Mid-North Shepherd Center, Heritage Place, Indiana African American Genealogy Group and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Sorority, Inc., where she served as Basileus. She was a docent at the Indianapolis Children's Museum and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, and was a contributor the Indiana State Museum's collection of Black history.

Carole was a graduate of Madison High School in Madison, IN. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Butler University and a Master of Education degree from Purdue University.

Carole was preceded in death by her husband, William Nathaniel Guess and sister Dr. Marilyn Cosby. Survivors include children William David Guess of Bloomington, Jeanmarie Guess-Hill of Arlington, TX, Theresa Guess-Holt of Evansville, Marc Edward and Deneen Guess of Indianapolis, Carole Janine Guess of Indianapolis, Pamela Guess of Bloomington; siblings Elsie (Cosby) Payne, Naomi (Cosby) Oglesby, Charles Cosby, Jr, Judith Cosby, Cecile (Cosby) Humes; Eugene Cosby; Shelia Cosby, Marlene Cosby, sister-in-law Betty Guess Garrett; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family and friends.

Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Cemetery.
