Hazel Jeanette DeVoss Williams
Mrs. Hazel Jeanette DeVoss Williams, 91, passed away on Thanksgiving Day November 24, 2011 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Hazel, born in New Albany Indiana, was the loving daughter to George and Lilly Orementa DeVoss and sister to Mary, Joe and Hank DeVoss. She married the love of her life, Eddie Williams, in her mid 20s and began her adventure of being a nurturing mother to three children, a committed wife and business partner and a great friend to many.
Hazel had a voracious appetite for history and enjoyed lively discussions about current and past events. She was a talented seamstress and created many of her best looks at her sewing machine. She was a committed Indianapolis Colts fan and was sure to wear her Colts hat on game day. She loved to travel with her family and friends and, like her dear mother, enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of gardening.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her brother, Hank DeVoss and wife Colleen; two sons and their spouses... Joe and Drena Williams; Jim and Melissa Williams and one daughter Jan Desin.
Hazel enjoyed with pride 7 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and their families. She embraced her role as the matriarch of both DeVoss and Williams families and kept in contact with as many people as could as long as she could. At 90 years old she took on the challenge of moving to West Palm Beach to a new environment with new friends. She accepted this difficult task with grace and courage. For her 91st birthday Hazel even enjoyed a robust weekend of family and friends...with a surprise guest of her brother Hank flying in for the celebration. She took ill shortly afterwards.
Memorial services will be held in Indianapolis where Hazel will rest next to Eddie her beloved husband.
It is her wish that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to Goodwill International Industries, Inc http://www.goodwill.org/ whose mission is to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals, families and communities. Her particular interests were support services for the deaf, services for the U.S. veterans and military families and being an environmental pioneer in the "reduce, reuse, repurpose" practice.
Her family extends their thanks to you for your prayers and thoughts as we celebrate her walk through life and rest in passing..

You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story.

Sincerely,

-Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
